Recently, Dan and Dinah Ballast visited the Karen Leadership Development Program (KLDP) in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The purpose of Dan and Dinah’s visit was to connect with and encourage their staff and students, and also to work with the KLDP Board on their continuing board development.
The “Co” in Co-Serve stands for community and community is one of our core values. We believe that servant leadership takes place in the context of community. The KLDP is an amazing example of what can happen in community. In the KLDP program, Karen students live with KLDP staff in a loving community while the students are attending university. In this context, the students learn how to love and serve each other while openly working through their personal struggles. Over the four years of the KLDP program, Karen students grow into young leaders who are confident in their identity, who are aware of their own brokenness, and who are ready to humbly love and serve others as they enter their various professions after university.
